Redistricting
So the redistricting brouhaha appears to be over now (pending court challenges). House and Senate Republicans have agreed on a plan.

From a personal perspective, I like this plan. Most of the previous plans I'd seen kept eastern Travis County together in one district. The western portion, usually starting around McNeil Rd. or RR620 in the northern part where I live, was grouped with a more Republican district either southward towards San Antonio or northward to include Round Rock, Georgetown, and points north. Unfortunately, I live just to the east of McNeil, which would have meant I'd get stuck with Lloyd Doggett as my representative. Ick.

In the compromise plan, though, eastern Travis county is split in two, with the southern district stretching down to the border to create a Hispanic-majority (~65%) district. The northern district, where I live (I belive Doggett also lives in the new District 10), stretches eastward to Katy and west Houston. This new district is about 65% Republican, so it's unlikely that I'll have to be represented in Congress by that old dog. Heck, I'm 26.. maybe I could run against him! Naahhhh...

American Anglicans
Some 2700 Episcopalian conservatives are in Dallas, meeting under the auspices of the American Anglican Council, along with 45 of the 300 Episcopalian bishops.

They have issued a declaration calling for the Anglican Primates (hmmm.. there's a good name for a rock band) to repudiate the actions of the Episcopalian General Convention earlier this year, where an openly gay and non-celibate man was confirmed as bishop. They also want the Primates to "discipline" the bishops.

I am certainly no expert on Anglicanism -- how does this work? What authority does, say, the Primate of Nigeria have over the American General Convention?

It sounds like what these guys need is a pope. ;)

Yearrrrrrggghh!
I don't believe it. The Bucs just became the first team in NFL history to lose after leading by 3 touchdowns with 4 minutes left in the game. That was an extremely painful 4th quarter to watch. Suddenly it seemed like the vaunted Bucs defense swapped places with the Rice defense.

Oh wait. The Rice defense was actually able to hold on to a late 4th quarter lead to win this weekend, 28-24.

I guess I'm cursed to not have both my favorite college and pro teams win at the same time this year. :(
