Baby steps..
.. but promising. From the AP: Chinese President Hu Jintao called for expanded "democratic" elections.

Apparently, China already allows nonpartisan elections at the village level. Hu is proposing that these be expanded. It remains to be seen if any true opposition parties/candidates are permitted.

NASA says, "It's safe -- really!"
In response to the assertion by a former Safety Advisory Board member that ISS is a serious accident "waiting to happen", NASA has responded that it believes ISS is safe, even though Russians and Americans "had made mistakes."

I sincerely hope this isn't just whistling past the graveyard...
